The following gives some information about other organisations that will help returners.

Wellcome Trust Research Career Re-entry Fellowships.

The Wellcome Trust offer a Fellowship scheme that is very similar to Daphne Jackson Fellowships. They only usually award one or two a year though and the Fellowships are competitive. They are suitable for post doctoral scientists who have recently decided to recommence a scientific research career after a continuous break of at least 2 years.
Full or part time fellowships available to suitable applicants.

L’Oreal/UKRC Bursaries

The L'Oreal UK/UKRC bursaries for British women returning to scientific research careers are worth £10,000 each. There is no age limit for applications. Candidates must be female research scientists who have obtained a PhD and who have taken a career break of at least 12 months and are now returning to their field of study.

Open University T161: Return to science, engineering and technology

A ten week short course with The Open University. This course is for anyone who has previously worked in the fields of science, engineering and technology and who wants to return to work (employed or self employed). It will help you:
• look at what you really want from work
• evaluate your skills and experience
• blow the dust off your CV
• make new contacts and revive existing ones
• find out who is offering the kind of work you want to do
• achieve that all-important work-life balance
The course is part-time and online, allowing flexibility around your other commitments. It has been developed by the Open University with support from UKRC and funding from the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) and ESF Equal.

The UKRC is able to offer bursaries to women living in England, Scotland and Wales.

If you live in Northern Ireland or the Republic of Ireland, WITS (Women in Technology & Science) is offering a limited number of bursaries for women studying the T161 course.
