MentorSET

MentorSET is a successful mentoring scheme to help women working in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). Mentoring is a partnership between two people (mentor and mentee) usually working in a similar field or sharing similar experiences. It is a helpful relationship based upon mutual trust and respect.

A mentor is a guide who can help the mentee to find the right direction and who can help them to develop solutions to career issues. Mentors rely upon having had similar experiences to gain an empathy with the mentee and an understanding of their issues. Mentoring provides the mentee with an opportunity to think about career options and progress.

MentorSET provides independent mentors who understand the challenges faced and who can provide support and advice. There are currently many hundreds of mentoring pairs spread across the UK and encompassing many different STEM careers.

The Daphne Jackson Trust recommends MentorSET to its Fellows if they feel that a mentor would be useful to them.

MentorSET is always looking for women who are interested in becoming mentees and family friendly people who are willing to be mentors. MentorSET is a UK-based initiative organised by the Womens Engineering Society. The scheme is now sponsored by the UK Resource Centre for Women in SET.
