special discretionary fund

The Special Discretionary Fund was established in 2001 to support Fellows’ exceptional research needs or exceptional cases of financial hardship, where establishment or satisfactory completion of a Fellowship would otherwise be jeopardised.

Each request for funding from this allowance is individually assessed. Decisions will be made by a Special Discretionary Fund Committee consisting of three members, reporting to the Trust’s Finance and General Purposes Committee. The Fellow and the Trust Administration will explore other means of support before an application for funds is made. The Fellow and the Trust Administration will make a case for support to the Committee, including a brief progress report of the Fellowship and note of other funding sought.

Decisions will be based on the degree to which the Fellowship would suffer if funds were not awarded. No maximum allocation per grant is set, but guidance on typical needs will be given before an application is made.
